Hip arthroscopy is now a key tool in the management of intra-articular hip disorders, particularly in younger, active patients. This session is designed to give healthcare professionals a clear, clinically relevant understanding of how surgical decision-making and technique influence rehabilitation and outcomes.
We will start by simplifying the key anatomical and biomechanical concepts underpinning common conditions treated arthroscopically, including femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), labral pathology, and chondral injury. The focus will be on how these conditions present clinically and how to identify patients who are likely to improve with rehabilitation alone versus those who may require surgical input.
From there, the discussion will move into the surgical approach, touching on what is actually done during hip arthroscopy, including labral repair, bony reshaping, and capsular management, and why these steps matter. Understanding the intent of surgery allows for more targeted and confident rehabilitation planning.
A portion of the session will be dedicated to post-operative management. Practical guidance will be provided on load progression, movement restrictions, restoring range and strength, and addressing movement quality. Common challenges and mistakes in rehab will also be highlighted.
The goal of this presentation is to align surgical and rehabilitation perspectives, equipping clinicians with the insight needed to guide patients safely and effectively through recovery and back to their desired level of activity.
Who should attend: Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Rehabilitation Therapists (with relevant professional degrees), Medical Doctors and Physiotherapy Students.
